My wife and I have made a "pre" new year's resolution to lose weight. She has set a goal to lose 20 lbs by the new year, and I have set a goal to lose 25 lbs. Our doctor suggested that we look at the Timex T5G971 heart rate monitor.

He explained that the T5G971 was an excellent tool to ensure that our exercise was burning calories from fat, not just glucose. Apparently, when the heart rate is kept in a certain range, or "zone", fat is burned at a higher rate. A very handy feature of the Timex T5G971, is that an alarm goes off if you fail to stay in your zone. It is kind of a little "tattle tail!"

To determine a target zone, simply subject your age from 220, and multiply that number by 70%. So if you are 50 years of age, subtract 50 from 220, and you come up with 170. Multiply 170 X.70, and you get 119. My doctor said I should keep my heart rate in a zone between 120-130 beats per minute.

So far, the T5G971 heart monitor has helped us do that. Generally, it takes about 3 minutes or so of exercising to reach your target zone. Consequently, the fact that the watch displays "average heart rate", is a very useful feature.

The Timex T5G971 Helps Make Sure You Burn That Fat!

Also, I have found the "calories burned"feature to be quite helpful, as well. It is important to note that their are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. The Timex T5G971 helps ensure that you stay at a heart rate level whereby the greatest percentage of calories burned, come from fat.

My wife and I prefer "power" walking as our regular exercise. We like it because it can be performed daily, with little wear and tear on the body. We wear our Timex T5G971, and also our chest straps. We strive to walk for at least 33 minutes, with 30 of those minutes in our respective zones.

We live in an enclosed community, so frequently de do our walking at night. The monitor has a backlight feature that illuminates the display in dimly lit conditions. This, in addition to the fact that the display is easy to read to begin with, is very appreciated.

A couple of times we have found ourselves walking in the rain. No problem, the Timex T5G971 heart rate monitor is water resistant, as well!

And, when we need to be home at a certain time, the T5G971 acts as a conventional watch as well.
